TAMASO MA JYOTIR GAMAYA

Echoing the above motto, Shri Shikshayatan School was founded on January 3, 1954 to empower education amongst young women by enlightening and engaging their bright minds to foster a progressive nation.

A lamp has been placed as our logo – “Prajwalito Dyanamay Padeepaha” – which means “a lamp of knowledge has been lit and that all may bathe in its sight”. The blue outline is the indication that the sky is the limit.

In the social scenario of 1920, there was a need to popularize the concept of educating young girls by empowering them with knowledge and quality education. With this vision in mind, a small but progressive school, Marwari Balika Vidyalaya was established at Burrabazar under the stewardship of Shri Ghanshyamdas Birla and Shri Jugal Kishore Birla along with a body of enlightened members of the Rajasthani community settled in Kolkata.
Later the society was named “Shikshayatan Foundation” and today under the guidance of this body, four educational institutions find their presence:

Marwari Balika Vidyalaya (Estd. in 1920)
Shri Shikshayatan School (Estd. in 1954)
Shri Shikshayatan College (Estd. in 1955)
Calcutta Business School (Estd. in 2008 by our present President Mr S.K. Birla)

Shri Shikshayatan School shares a common campus with Shri Shikshayatan College. Both these institutions have earned acclaim over the years to emerge as premier educational institutions in Kolkata owing to the relentless efforts of Late Sitaram Seksaria and Late Bhagirathmal Kanoria – two of the esteemed trustees of the society.

The school logo and the symbol of Shri Shikshayatan School is an intellectual property of Shri Shikshayatan School* (“the School”) and Shikshayatan Foundation** (“the Apex Body”).

Only the School and the Apex Body have ownership and the right of use over the logo and symbol of the School. Therefore, unauthorised use and/or any use of this logo and symbol by any individual or group of individuals or any company or society, etc. without the permission of the School and/or the Apex Body,  the School and/or the Apex Body reserves the right to take appropriate legal and/or disciplinary action against the individual or group of individuals or the company or the society, etc. who dare to use the logo without permission of the School and/or the Apex Body.
